NAMSS Virtual Educational Conference

The NAMSS Virtual Conference is an organizationwide, low-cost training approach that offers you and your staff the right level of training at the right price, depending on your organization’s educational needs. The Virtual Conference offers 8 sessions that run concurrently throughout the Annual Conference. The 60-minute or 90-minute real-time Webcast sessions offer individuals different levels of virtual access, depending on your educational interests.

With changing reimbursement incentives, many healthcare practitioners are shifting most of their clinical activity to ambulatory based practices in which there is little hospital quality data. Simultaneously, CMS, The Joint Commission, and other accreditors increasingly require privileging to be based upon objective and meaningful performance data so that privileging decisions may be ‘objective and evidence based’. Learn ‘best practice’ approaches to safely credential and privilege low/no volume practitioners so that the hospital does not inadvertently exclude practitioners who are strategically important to the organization.

Organizations find Ongoing Performance Evaluation (OPPE) a challenge to complete for physicians. Many find it an impossible task when it comes to measuring performance for non-physician practitioners. This presentation will discuss practical ways that an organization can begin to identify performance measures and collect substantive data on this practitioner group’s individual performance. In addition, speakers will discuss how such information should be reported and the processes for managing deficient performance.

This two-part presentation will provide an overview of each organization, with an emphasis on credentialing and medical staff standards, followed by a discussion on the comparison of various standards based on the NAMSS Comparison of Accreditation Standards Grid.

Over the last several years, Medical Staff peer review processes have become more effective in addressing questions and concerns with physicians than ever before. While this improvement has lessened the need to conduct formal investigations, it has not eliminated it. When an investigation must be conducted, the process still seems daunting and risk-prone to all who are involved. This session will use video-enhanced case studies with neurosurgeon Dr. Scully to explore the essential “do’s and don’ts” of a Medical Staff investigation.
