Session Description
Hot Topics in Health Care
The landscape in health care is changing every day. Keeping up to date with all the changes can be challenging. During this education session, staff from the Kansas Hospital Association will bring attendees up to date on a variety of hot topics in health care today including: health reform, the recovery audit contractor program, various payment models for hospitals and state legislative issues. There will be time for questions and answers at the conclusion of the session.
The Kansas Hospital Association is a not-for-profit association of health care provider organizations and individuals that are committed to the health improvement of their communities. KHA membership includes 194 member facilities, of which 125 are full-service community hospitals. Founded in 1910, KHA maintains its vision of “an organization of hospitals working together to improve access, quality and the affordability of health care for all Kansans.”
Objectives
At the completion of this course, attendees will be able to:
· Describe the difference between a Prospective Payment Hospital and a Critical Access Hospital;
· Discuss steps involved in the Recovery Audit Contractor Program; and
· List three components of the recently passed health reform package.
Bios
Tish Hollingsworth is the Director of Reimbursement for the Kansas Hospital Association. Her primary responsibilities at KHA representing and advocating on behalf of member hospitals in local, state, and national venues on issues related to health care reimbursement, billing and collections. In addition, she also collaborates and supports various KHA financial data products and services including community benefit reporting, hospital-specific Medicare financial impact analyses, and the Medicare wage index project. Tish also collaborates and participates as a KHA representative at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Regional Office, the CMS Central Office Medicare Technical Advisory Group, the Kansas Medicaid Provider Work Group, Wisconsin Physician Services Provider Outreach and Education Advisory Group, the American Hospital Association Financial Specialists, and other health care finance related meetings. She is a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and serves as a liaison to the Kansas Chapter of HFMA, the Kansas Association of Patient Access and Account Managers, and the Kansas Society of Hospital Central Service Professionals. Tish has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Fort Hays State University.
Jennifer Findley serves as the Senior Director of Education for the Kansas Hospital Association. Her primary responsibilities at KHA include coordination of all education programs and the KHA Annual Convention and Trade Show. In addition, she manages careLearning, KHA’s web based education training program. Jennifer serves as a liaison to the Kansas Healthcare Education Council, Kansas Healthcare Engineers Association, Kansas Healthcare Environmental Services Association and the Kansas Association of Medical Staff Services. She is a member of the KAN-ED User Advisory Committee and the Kansas Broadband Advisory Task Force. Jennifer has a bachelor’s degree in political science and speech communication from Wichita State University a training and development certificate from Southwest Missouri State University College of Business Administration.
