Course Description Medical terminology is vital to healthcare professionals working directly or indirectly with patient care. Medical staff services and provider credentialing professionals with a working knowledge of medical terminology are better prepared in the credentialing process of healthcare practitioners' appoint and reappointment applications, writing section/department meeting minutes and credentialing for new procedures.
Course Objective Course 2 provides a baseline of medical terminology knowledge necessary to function in any healthcare setting. Learning Outcome Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- utilize a medical dictionary for determining the correct spelling and definition of medical terms
- change the spelling of a medical term from singular to plural
- explain word elements that in combined forms compose medical terms
- apply basic rules in analyzing and understanding medical terminology
- demonstrate ability to define medical terms and the common word elements that compose them
- identify the primary structures of each body system
- recognize the body functions of each body system
- recognize the definitions, signs and symptoms of diseases as presented in each unit
