SESSION DESCRIPTION: Telemedicine is rapidly integrating into all aspects of medicine from the home health environment to emergency medicine departments in large tertiary hospitals. Telemedicine poses some interesting challenges in licensing, credentialing and privileging as health care moves far beyond the four walls of institutions. MSPs must have an understanding of this new area and familiarize themselves with the unique challenges ahead. This program will explore the JCAHO requirements while appreciating the various issues hospitals are facing concerning compliance and applicability of the standards.

* Identify the uses of telemedicine and the modes of transmission;Address present and future regulatory challenges.
* Explore possible processes that will better fit the future use of telemedicine yet continue to protect the patient.
* Establish definitions of key words to be used in a telemedicine policy.
* Distinguish between performing the credentialing process versus using the distant site's credentialing process.
