Approved by the Governor September 29, 2006. Requires all licensed health facilities to the report to the state Department of Health any "adverse event investigations" conducted within five days of discovery of the problem. "Adverse events" are divided into seven major categories: surgical, product or device, patient protection, care management, environmental, criminal, and death or disability of a patient, worker, or visitor. If the DHS suspects that the causes of the adverse event have not been completely resolved following its investigation, the department will be required to conduct at least one unannounced inspection of the health care facility per year following the event. This law goes into effect July 1, 2007. |
