Medical Staff Specialist: Full Time Permanent Position; Monday – Friday Days
General Summary of Position Responsibility: The Medical Staff Specialist is accountable for ensuring the hospital credentialing and privileging processes (including but not limited to primary source verifications, analysis and evaluation of verifications and privileges requested, and completion of application for Credentials Committee) are completed efficiently and effectively in accordance with established regulatory agencies, accreditation organizations, Medical and Dental Staff Bylaws, and Hospital and Medical Staff policies for initial applicants and reapplicants to the Medical and Dental Staff. The Medical Staff Specialist will be relied upon for initiating and maintaining accurate information on all members of the Lurie Children’s Medical and Dental Staff. The Medical Staff Specialist will also provide cross coverage and collaboration with department staff on key initiatives of the Medical Staff Services Department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Bachelor’s degree in business, organization management or health care related degree preferred or minimum three years’ experience in medical staff credentialing and recredentialing process.
2. Certification/Licensure/Registration. Certification by National Association of Medical Staff Services as a Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) is preferred or minimum three years’ experience in medical staff credentialing and recredentialing process.
3. Working knowledge of regulatory and accrediting organization standards.
4. Must have experience with a JCAHO or NCQA audit.
5. Extensive knowledge and experience working with Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Visio with the ability to operate standard office equipment (examples: photocopy machine, facsimile machine, calculator, etc.). Ability to type at least 40 wpm is preferred.
6. Ability to work under pressure, handle numerous interruptions without losing the attention to details of the task interrupted, be detail oriented, and have excellent cognitive and communication skills.

The Medical Technologist II
performs tests and procedures of a highly complex nature and by demonstrating a
thorough understanding of the technical methods, concepts and principles.
Performs or is able to perform at the level of other Medical Technologists I
and II within the same unit, where necessary. May provide technical
assistance or general direction to Medical Technologist I, Interns Medical
Laboratory Technicians and others. Assists in verifying test results of a
small unit or section and ensures the timely and accurate delivery of
services. May assist Medical Technologist III in the execution of highly
advanced tests and procedures or provide additional coverage in connection with
particular assignments. Exercises professional judgment and independent
discretion beyond that of a Medical Technologist I in a variety of
circumstances which may include locating and selecting from among alternative
methods and procedures in specific cases, or making minor deviations from
established guidelines where gaps in specificity exists. Provides
expertise relative to assigned area(s) and performs a variety of responsible
duties in connection with troubleshooting one or benches, assisting with
