Michelle Butler, MS, CPCS, CPMSM, FMSP

Director, Medical Staff Services Central Credentialing Office

Mass General Brigham

Sommerville, MA

Candidate Statement:

It is an honor to be on the slate of nominees for Secretary‑Treasurer of NAMSS.  I am grateful for the confidence placed in me by my peers and for the opportunity to continue serving an organization that has profoundly shaped my professional journey and the advancement of our profession.

A little background information about me, I have more than 25 years’ experience in medical staff services, regulatory compliance, and healthcare operations. I currently serve as Director of Medical Staff Services for Mass General Brigham, a large, complex healthcare system, where I oversee enterprise medical staff services. I began my medical staff services career in a small community hospital, where limited resources required broad responsibilities and provided me with exposure to multiple healthcare operations. These experiences gave me an understanding of various healthcare settings, from community hospitals to large academic and specialty systems, including accredited ambulatory centers.

My commitment to NAMSS is longstanding. Currently I am a member of the NAMSS AI Task Force and a Government Relations Liaison to the Board. Prior to these roles, I have had the privilege of serving NAMSS in numerous volunteer positions, including Director at Large 2019-2021, and 2025 when I was also appointed Board Liaison to the Professional Impact, Opportunity, and Engagement Committee.  I was a member of the Audit & Finance Committee 2017-2018, Leadership Selection Committee member 2020-2023, Chair of the Subject Matter Expert Task Force 2022, and Certification Commission member 2011-2014. These experiences allowed me to learn and understand NAMSS governance, financial oversight, board operations, and the responsibilities entrusted to our officers to support NAMSS members.

In addition to my NAMSS service, I have served as President and President‑Elect of the Massachusetts Association Medical Staff Services (MAMSS) from 2009 - 2012. During this time and as Immediate Past-President I was also Chair of the Conference, Bylaws, Nominating and Scholarship committees.  These roles strengthened my belief in the importance of cultivating leadership at all levels, supporting professional development, and ensuring strong alignment between state and national associations. Earlier in my career, I also served as a member of the Amesbury Healthcare Trust Commission, contributing to community‑focused stewardship by supporting underserved members of my community.

I believe my experience, collaborative leadership style, ability to build strong teams, and strategic mindset will serve the best interests of NAMSS members and support achievement of the NAMSS strategic plan. I am committed to thoughtful preparation, transparent decision making, sound financial stewardship, and continuing to foster an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are welcome and valued while cultivating a positive and engaging culture that brings energy and fun to our work.

Outside of work, I am married, have two adult children, live in York, Maine and enjoy kayaking, e‑biking, and time with family, friends and my sassy Maltese, “Stan”.

If elected Secretary Treasurer, I will bring dedication, integrity, a member-focused approach to advancing the mission of NAMSS, and a sense of humor that fosters connection and collaboration.

Thank you for your consideration.

Diana Hall, CPCS, CPMSM, FMSP

Independent Consultant

Self Employed/Greely Interim Staffing

Clarkston, GA

Candidate Statement:

Thank you for the opportunity to share why I would like to serve the NAMSS membership as Secretary/Treasurer. Since entering this profession, I have felt a strong calling to serve and support my fellow professionals. I began volunteering with Medical Staff Services organizations in 1994, when I was elected Secretary/Treasurer for the Panhandle Association of Medical Staff Services in Amarillo, Texas. It was an exciting opportunity to serve my local chapter by ensuring accurate and timely reporting to the Texas Association of Medical Staff Services and by acting as a responsible steward of our funds to help sustain the organization’s future. I found this work deeply rewarding and was eager to do more.

My next leadership opportunity came in 1999 when I joined the NAMSS Education Committee as an Independent Study Program (ISP) Module Editor. Although the program retired in the early 2000s, it provided valuable experience serving at the national level. I later became NAMSS Education Chair in 2006 and continued to chair various committees throughout the 2010s. Serving as a mentor to prospective certificants, particularly in Managed Care and NCQA, allowed me to engage in meaningful one-on-one interactions, one of the most rewarding aspects of this profession. The networking, collaborative problem-solving across states, and long-standing professional relationships continue to sustain and inspire me.

I also had the privilege of serving with the Georgia Association of Medical Staff Services (GAMSS), beginning as Treasurer in 2002 (yes, a familiar role) and later as President from 2016 to 2017. GAMSS requires two-year terms for its executive leadership, which gave me a strong appreciation for the time, continuity, and dedication needed to see initiatives through to completion.

Being elected as a NAMSS Director-at-Large in 2020 was a tremendous honor and allowed me to once again serve my peers at the national level. This experience strengthened my leadership skills, deepened my ability to listen, and reinforced my role as an advocate for Medical Services Professionals (MSPs) at the community, state, and national levels.

Since 2000, I have served state associations across the country as an educational speaker, focusing primarily on Managed Care, Delegated Credentialing, and NCQA. I have also had the opportunity to present at the NAMSS National Educational Conference and as a NAMSS webinar speaker in the 2020s. Working as a subject matter expert outside of a hospital setting has reinforced that, regardless of where we practice, our shared mission as MSPs remains the same: prioritizing patient safety above all else.

Through this self-nomination, I hope to once again serve my profession and my peers as NAMSS Secretary/Treasurer. It has been a rewarding journey since 1994, and I look forward to what lies ahead.

Monica Martin, MA, CPCS, CPMSM

Office Administrator

Central Nephrology Clinic PLLC

Jackson, MS

Candidate Statement:

My name is Monica Martin, MA, CPCS, CPMSM, and I am honored to submit my nomination for the position of 2027 NAMSS Secretary/Treasurer. With more than 25 years of experience as a Medical Services Professional, I bring a broad background in hospital credentialing, CVO credentialing, and provider enrollment, along with a deep commitment to advancing our profession.

I currently serve as a NAMSS Director At Large and have held multiple leadership roles at the local and state levels, including President of the Greater Houston Society of Medical Services Specialists, Director At Large of the Texas Society of Medical Services Specialists, and Vice President and Conference Chair of the Mississippi Society Medical Staff Services. Through these roles, I have gained hands on experience in governance, conference planning, mentoring, and public speaking, while supporting strategic collaboration and professional growth.

My interest in serving as Secretary/Treasurer stems from my desire to continue sharing knowledge, mentoring emerging leaders, and supporting the operational excellence of NAMSS. Serving as a Director At Large has reinforced the importance of organization, transparency, and clear communication—skills that are essential to this role. I value responsible stewardship and believe strong administrative leadership allows our organization to better serve its members and mission.

If elected, I will work to foster collaboration across all areas of the medical services profession—including credentialing, payer enrollment, and provider enrollment—recognizing that alignment across these sectors strengthens our collective ability to support safe, high quality patient care. My commitment as a leader is to help build strong connections, encourage shared learning, and support the continued advancement of NAMSS.

Thank you for your consideration and for the opportunity to continue serving this exceptional organization. I would be honored to earn your support.

Director-At-Large Candidates

Three positions will be elected, each with three-year terms from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2029.

Candidates are listed in alphabetical order below.

Jackie Doherty, CPCS, CPMSM

Director, Medical Staff Services

Rush University Medical Center

Oak Park, IL

Candidate Statement:

I am honored to submit my candidacy for a Director at Large position with the NAMSS. For nearly two decades, my professional career has been dedicated to advancing excellence, integrity, and regulatory within Medical Staff Services, and my volunteer service with NAMSS has reinforced my commitment to the organization’s mission and the future of the profession.

In my current role as Director of Medical Staff Services at Rush University Medical Center and Rush Oak Park Hospital, I provide strategic leadership over medical staff governance, credentialing, privileging, and professional practice evaluation in a complex healthcare environment. This experience has strengthened my ability to think systemically, balance regulatory requirements with operational realities, and partner effectively with physician leaders and executives. These are skills that I believe directly align with the fiduciary, strategic, and advisory responsibilities of the Director at Large role.

As a member and the Chair of the NAMSS Accreditation Committee (2022 – Present), I have played an active role in advancing the quality and efficiency of NAMSS continuing education accreditation program. During my tenure, I have collaborated with committee members and NAMSS staff to modernize and standardize this work, including the development of the NAMSS Applicant Review Portal, which enables real time application review and approval, rather than having to wait for the next scheduled committee meeting. This enhancement has significantly improved timeliness and responsiveness for applicants.

To further support fairness and consistency, I helped implement policy revisions that simplified the application submission and approval process while ensuring equitable review standards. I instituted an internal “CE tracker” to systematically record application details, categories, and review and approval outcomes, which has greatly improved transparency and accountability. I also set and reinforce the expectation that committee members complete application reviews within seven (7) days.

In addition, I was involved in the development of a standardized Continuing Education (CE) application template, a tool used to ensure all required information is captured accurately on the first submission. This template was intentionally formatted to integrate seamlessly with the CE tracker, reducing manual data entry.

All of this considered, these contributions have cut the Committee’s average approval turnaround times from approximately 30 days to 16 days, something we are now tracking through the committee’s newly enhanced CE dashboard which provides real time and historical data metrics to enable more informed decision making and continuous quality improvement.

If given the opportunity, I would be genuinely honored to make a similar impact on a larger scale. I will bring a strong advocacy mindset that is grounded in firsthand understanding of the challenges MSPs face and the critical role of clear communication, education, and leadership development. I am particularly passionate about supporting state associations, mentoring emerging leaders, and promoting meaningful volunteer engagement. I believe these efforts are essential to sustaining a strong, diverse membership and cultivating a robust leadership pipeline that positions NAMSS for long‑term success.

Serving as Director at Large would be a meaningful opportunity to give back to an organization that has shaped my career and to help advance the profession during a period of continued change and growth. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

With 30 years of healthcare experience and a current role as Regional Director of Medical Staff Operations for a multihospital system, I have been building a career focused on advancing credentialing excellence, strengthening governance, and safeguarding patients through high-performing medical staff processes.

As a graduate of the inaugural NAMSS Leaders of Tomorrow program, I have experienced firsthand the impact of intentional leadership development. I am committed to paying that experience forward by contributing at a national level, supporting other state associations, strengthening our NAMSS community, and helping to elevate and advance the MSP profession across the country. I currently serve on the NAMSS Membership Committee, where I contribute to efforts focused on engaging, supporting, and retaining both new and existing members, ensuring they feel connected, valued, and empowered within the profession.

My leadership extends beyond operations; I am deeply committed to the future of the MSP profession. I actively partner with academic institutions, including Towson University, to introduce students to careers in medical staff services, develop internship pathways, and mentor emerging professionals. I believe strongly that our profession must be visible, accessible, and intentionally cultivated to ensure its sustainability for the next generation.

If selected to serve on the NAMSS Board of Directors, I will bring a collaborative, forward-thinking approach grounded in real-world operational experience. I am passionate about elevating the MSP profession, expanding educational pathways, and ensuring that our work continues to evolve alongside the rapidly changing healthcare landscape.
