NAMSS SCHOLARSHIPS

NAMSS Empowering Tomorrow’s MSP® Scholarship

As part of NAMSS' commitment to enhancing the professional development of and recognition for all professionals in the medical staff and credentialing profession, the NAMSS Empowering Tomorrow’s MSP® Scholarship is designed to support MSPs from racial and ethnic minority groups. This scholarship was created in support of the NAMSS Diversity and Inclusion initiatives, click here to read more.

This scholarship offers financial support for certification preparation, continuing education (i.e., Credentialing 101, Credentialing 201, Provider Enrollment Curriculum, CPCS® Preparation Course, CPMSM® Preparation Course, or Leadership Certificate Program), or Annual Conference registration, based upon the applicant’s preference. In addition, the scholarship winners will be appointed a NAMSS mentor to help grow their career and/or NAMSS volunteer leadership opportunities. Up to four applicants will be chosen annually. 

Application Requirements:

  • The application must include a personal statement describing:
    • in 300 – 500 words, briefly explain what diversity, equity, and inclusion mean to you and how it personally affects your life and career.
    • in 300 – 500 words, briefly explain your career goals and how you plan to use this scholarship to achieve them.
  • A current CV/resume (not to exceed three pages)
  • A letter of support from the applicant’s supervisor

Candidate Eligibility Requirements:

  • The applicant must be an MSP who has been employed in the field for at least 12 months.
  • The applicant must be a member of a racial and ethnic minority group (i.e., people of color), which includes:
    • Black/African-American
    • Hispanic/Latino
    • Middle Eastern
    • Asian and Pacific Islander
    • American Indian
    • Alaska Native
  • If applying for a CPCS Preparation Course, the applicant must be employed in the medical services profession for at least 12 consecutive months in the last 24 months and must have a total of three years of experience in the medical services profession within the past five years.
  • If applying for a CPMSM Preparation Course, the applicant must be employed in the medical services profession for at least 12 consecutive months in the last 24 months and must have a total of five years of experience in the medical services profession within the past eight years.

NAMSS Annual Conference Scholarship - (15) scholarships offered

The NAMSS Annual Conference Scholarship provides financial assistance to an active member of NAMSS who is currently employed in the medical services profession or holds the NAMSS CPCS® or CPMSM® and is currently seeking employment in the same.

Scholarship recipients may select one of the following packages if joining the conference in-person:

  1. Complimentary registration + (3) nights hotel stay*
  2. Complimentary registration + $750 travel stipend**

*Hotel reservation to be reserved through NAMSS in a NAMSS hotel block. Individuals may stay for additional nights at their own expense, but location at a specific hotel is not guaranteed.

**Travel stipend may be used toward any travel or per diem expenses. All stipends will be paid via check once the Conference has concluded and in-person attendance has been confirmed.

If attending the conference virtually, the scholarship will be granted to cover the cost of virtual registration only.

  • A personal statement explaining your educational goals and objectives and how this scholarship can help you attain those goals
  • A current CV/resume

Candidate Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants MUST be NAMSS members.
  • Applicants MUST be currently employed in the profession of medical staff or provider credentialing services or hold the NAMSS CPCS® or CPMSM® and currently seeking employment in same.
  • Scholarship recipients will be asked to provide at least one hour of volunteer time at Conference and to share their experience in NAMSS Gateway following Conference.
  • NAMSS Board members and instructors are ineligible for this scholarship.

Charlotte Cochrane Scholarship Award 

The Charlotte Cochrane Scholarship Award was established in 1988, in honor of Charlotte Cochrane, founder and past president of NAMSS and former Overview (now called Synergy) editor . This award provides financial assistance, in an amount not to exceed $1,500, to an current active member of NAMSS currently employed in the profession of medical staff or provider credentialing services or holds the NAMSS CPCS or CPMSM and is currently seeking employment in the same. Applicant must also be currently enrolled in a program of study.   Recipients of the Charlotte Cochrane Award will be recognized at the Annual Conference during the Business Luncheon and as such receive complimentary registration and one night hotel. Please note: NAMSS Board members, Committee members, and instructors are ineligible for scholarship awards.

Application Requirements:

Applicants must submit a completed application including:

  • Proof of enrollment
  • A degree plan/schedule of classes/transcripts if applicable
  • Descriptive materials relating to the current accredited program
  • A narrative personal statement detailing your educational goals and objectives (including a time-table) and how this field of study will/can be applied to profession
  • A current CV/resume

Candidate Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants MUST be NAMSS members.
  • Applicants MUST be currently employed in the profession of medical staff or provider credentialing services or hold the NAMSS CPCS or CPMSM and currently seeking employment in same.
  • NAMSS Board members, Committee members, and instructors are ineligible for scholarship awards.
  • Applicant MUST also be enrolled in an accredited program of study.

Continuing Education Scholarship 

This scholarship provides financial assistance, in an amount not to exceed $1,000, to an current active member of NAMSS who is currently employed in the medical services profession or holds the NAMSS CPCS or CPMSM and is currently seeking employment in same. The scholarship may be used for tuition/registration fees, accommodations or travel expenses for the education event, or for educational materials.  Applicable CE opportunities include live and recorded Webinars, online or in person courses and educational products. Please note: NAMSS Board members, Committee members, and instructors are ineligible for scholarship awards. 

Application Requirements:

  • Descriptive materials relating to the program including program cost
  • A personal statement of educational goals, objectives and a time-table
  • A current CV/resume
  • A budget highlighting the expenses to be covered by scholarship

Candidate Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants MUST be NAMSS members.
  • Applicants MUST be currently employed in the profession of medical staff or provider credentialing services or hold the NAMSS CPCS or CPMSM and currently seeking employment in same.
  • NAMSS Board members, Committee members, and instructors are ineligible for scholarship awards.
